Queensland Manufacturing Institute Appoints New CEO

Queensland Manufacturing Institute (QMI), a cornerstone of manufacturing support in Queensland since 1993, is pleased to announce the appointment of new CEO, Michael Swart.

Over three decades, QMI, as the QLD licensee for ICN, and Industry Capability Network National (ICN National) together have navigated economic transformations while championing local supply chains in an increasingly complex global landscape. Last year, QMI was acquired by ICN National in a step that has already brought enhanced connections between local manufacturers and major national projects. This appointment adds additional experience and stability to this partnership.

QMI Chairperson, Dr Tim Turner says Mr Swart will be a great asset to the Institute “Mike’s long experience with both ICN and the QLD economy makes him an ideal appointment to this role.”

QMI’s strategic focus is on building sovereign manufacturing across the state, with an emphasis on the regions. Through ICN’s flagship procurement platform, Gateway by ICN, and the increasing importance of the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, Mike’s team will play an important role in ensuring local capability is harnessed to fulfill the QLD Government’s priority sectors.

“Mike’s appointment puts QMI in safe hands for the future” said ICN National CEO, Warren Jansen “He will be a strong leader at this important time”

This appointment will come into effect on July 1, 2026, marking an important new stage for the organisation.
